Registration and the learning account
  • Schools assist students to plan their pathway
    through the senior phase of learning.
  • Schools register students in the year prior to
    turning 16.
  • The QSA opens a learning account for the student.

What is a Queensland Certificate of Education?
  • A QCE will be awarded to young people only if
    their course of study satisfies some specific
    requirements
  • a significant amount of learning
  • a set standard of achievement
  • in a set pattern
  • meet the literacy and numeracy requirement.

Why aim for a QCE?
  • Some have stated that a QCE has no
  • value for students and OPs are what is
  • important.

The old Senior Certificate
  • In the past students could receive a
  • Senior Certificate with
  • 6 QSA subjects exited at a VLA
  • 1 subject assessed by a Senior External
    Examination
  • 1 competency of a VET Cert I

Credit rules for awarding a QCE
  • The amount of study in each category
  • and the standard to be met is laid down
  • in legislation.

CORE COURSES OF STUDY
  • To be awarded a QCE a minimum of 12 credits must
    come from completed Core courses of study.
  • At least 1 credit must come from Core studies
    completed whilst enrolled at school.

CREDIT FORPARTIAL COMPLETION OF CORE COURSES
  • Authority subjects and Authority-registered
    subjects based on semesters studied before
    exiting with a Sound Level of Achievement or
    higher standard.
  • VET Certificate qualifications based on 25, 50
    or 75 of the competencies attained.
  • Components of recognised international learning
    programs may contribute towards the award of a
    QCE.

    semester of each course.

FLEXIBILITY
  • Credits can accumulate for up to 9 years after
    registering for a learning account (generally the
    beginning of Year 10).
