1Islam and ICT
- A viewpoint of a Muslim Researcher
Dr Abdulmajid Hissen Mohamed Department of
Computer Scienece Faculty of ICT IIUM
2Sayings of the Prophet (s) "Acquisition of
knowledge is compulsory for every Muslim, whether
male or female." "The ink of the scholar is more
sacred than the blood of the martyr." "Seek
knowledge from the cradle to the grave." "The
best form of worship is the pursuit of
knowledge." "To listen to the words of the
learned and to instill unto others the lessons of
science is better than religious exercises."
"Thinking deep for one hour (with sincerity) is
better than 70 years of (mechanical) worship."
"Scholars should endeavour to speak knowledge
and provide education to people who have been
deprived of it. For where knowledge is hidden it
disappears."
3"And Allah brought you out of your mother's wombs
devoid of all knowledge, but He has endowed you
with hearing, and sights, and minds-hearts, so
that you may be grateful." (Quran, 1678) "And
never concern yourself with anything of which you
have no knowledge Surely (your) hearing and
sight and mind-heart, all of them, will be called
to account for it (on Judgement Day)!" (Quran,
1736) "O Men! Pay heed to the messages of Allah,
for it is He who had endowed you with hearing,
and sight, and minds-hearts (Yet) how seldom are
you grateful." (Quran, 2378) "(The Mighty One,
the Merciful is) He who makes most excellent
everything that He Creates. Thus He begins the
creation of man out of clay then He causes him
to be begotten out of the essence of a humble
fluid and then He forms him in accordance with
what he is meant to be, and breathes into him of
His spirit and (thus O men!) He endows you with
hearing and sight, and minds-hearts (yet) how
seldom are you grateful." (Quran, 329) "Say
'(Allah is) He who has brought you (all) into
being, and has endowed you with hearing, and
sight and minds-hearts (yet) how seldom are you
grateful'." (Quran, 6723)
4ICT as the backbone for Dakwah
- In verse (4913) of Quran, God addresses all
humanity (Muslims and non Muslims) by saying O
mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a
male and a female, and made you into nations and
tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye
may despise (each other).
