5 STUDENT TEACHING APPLICATIONPOLICY
- Students file an application one academic
semester before they plan to student teach with
Office of Field Placement.
6REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENT TEACHING
- Official admission to the College of Education
- Attend student teaching application meeting
- Pass content area test
- Pass all required course work in the program of
study and all departmental requirements
7REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENT TEACHING continued
- Submit an official application for student
teaching to the Office of Field Placement the
semester prior to student teaching - Current resume
- Criminal Background Check
- CPS requirements completed (if student teaching
in a Chicago Public School)

- Application signed by an advisor and applicant
- Valid TB Test
- Resume
- Application fee of 45.00 (cash or money orders
only) - Copy of content area test
- Criminal Background Check
- Confirmation letter from CPS (if applicable)

22OPTION Program
- Post-baccalaureate full-time substitute teachers,
completing initial teacher education programs at
CSU, may qualify to student teach in their own
classroom without relinquishing their position or
salary if they meet the following criteria
23STUDENT TEACHING OPTION FORPOST-BACCALAUREATE
FULL-TIME SUBSTITUTES
- Criteria
-
- Minimum grade point average of 3.0 in each of the
following areas all course-work required in the
program, area of specialization or concentration
and professional education. -
- Minimum of six semesters of full-time teaching
experience with total responsibility for an
assigned classroom. -
- Classroom assignment matching the area of
certification the semester prior to student
teaching. -
- Minimum of 3 positive evaluations of classroom
teaching performance from current school
principal. -
- Request letter from schools principal for
student teaching placement in current classroom
and identification of a site-based supervisor. -
- Recommendation letters from two teaching
colleagues at the school. -
24STUDENT TEACHING OPTION FORPOST-BACCALAUREATE
FULL-TIME SUBSTITUTES
- Professional development outside of coursework in
the form of in-services, workshops, conferences,
and/or memberships in professional organizations. -
- Portfolio of sample curriculum materials and
lesson plans. -
- Passing scores on the Illinois Certification Test
of Basic Skills, Content Area and Assessment of
Professional Teaching. - Completion of 50 secondary and 50 elementary
field experience hours for K 12 programs. -
- Minimum of 100 field experience hours in public
schools if student teaching assignment is in a
private school (no field experience hours can be
waived for teaching experience).
