2What is National Board Certification?
National Board Certification is a symbol of
professional teaching excellence. A National
Board certificate will attest that a teacher was
judged by his or her peers as one who is
accomplished, makes sound professional judgments
about students' best interests, and acts
effectively on those judgments.

- Teachers are committed to students and their
learning. - Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to
teach those subjects to students. - Teachers are responsible for managing and
monitoring student learning.

5Whats in it for you?
- An opportunity to examine everyday practices as a
media specialist. - Two 5-year clear, renewable certificates upon
successful completion. - A commitment from State of Georgia for 10 above
salary schedule for life of the two
certificates. (Must be in NI school).
6What are the entry requirements?
- A minimum of three years in current position
(within the same system). - Possess a minimum of baccalaureate degree.
- Have a current state teaching license for
position held. - Complete application and pay 2,565 for
registration and assessment (500 65
registration fee are nonrefundable).
7What will you do during the process for
certification?
- Submit four entries that will be assessed by
NBPTS teachers. - Take a three-hour assessment on computer that
consists of six writing prompts related to
Library Media Standards.
8How long will this take?
- Candidates may apply anytime before Dec. 31,
2007. Check out calendar and submission dates.

March 31, 2008. - 24-months from date of assessment entry to
complete or reapply.
9What do the portfolio entries cover?
- Entry One You will provide evidence of
collaboration with teachers at your school to
provide planning, implementation, and assessment
of learning to students in your school. Evidence
will include documentation, samples of students
work, and a written commentary.

- Entry Two You will provide a videotape of your
teaching that demonstrates your ability to
instill within students at your school an
appreciation of literature. The videotape will
include a brief overview of your media center,
sample instructional materials, and written
commentary.

- Entry Three You will provide a videotape
demonstrating your ability to effectively select
and integrate technologies into the instructional
program at your school. This will include sample
instructional materials and written commentary.

- Entry Four You will provide various
documentation items that demonstrate your
accomplishments over a five-year period. You
will highlight your work as a teacher in three
categories as a member of the learning
community as a learner and as a leader.
13Assessment Center
- Computer-generated test.
- Six writing prompts based on standards.
- Three-hour limit.
- Scored by NBPTS assessors.

- Contact the Georgia Professional Standards

- Notify them of your intent.
- Receive a PSC Number.
- Register for The Knowledgeable Teacher course or
other approved course. - Contact financial resources.
- Follow timeline set by the PSC.
15What is the cost for National Board Certification?
- Total fee is 2,565
- 500 is nonrefundable initial fee NBPTS added a
65 nonrefundable registration fee. - 2,000 pays for the actual assessment of entries
and test. - You may get assistance for the 2,000.
16Where can you find financial assistance?
- Georgia PSC gets money from state and grants.
You sign a promissory note with 1-year promise to
teach. - PAGE offers a few 2,000 scholarships to members

17How can you begin preparing for NBPTS?
- Look at NBPTS website and get information and
standards. - Contact the Georgia PSC about your interest.
- Take The Knowledgeable Teacher course or other
PSC-approved course. - Begin NOW by jotting down ideas that relate to
specifics of NBPTS.
