2Does the KCA window for math close on the same
day for all high school students?
- No. The OTL window closes May 1 for students in
grade 11 and May 15 for students in grades 9
11.
3Can any 9th grade student take the State
Mathematics Assessment as a part of OTL?
- No. Only those 9th graders who are in a high
school building may take the State Mathematics
Assessment as a part of OTL.
4Can a student use his or her own calculator when
taking the KCA version of the State Mathematics
Assessment?
- Yes. A student does not have to use the
on-screen calculator that is a part of the KCA.
5Is it true that a student cannot use a
multiplication table when taking any part of the
State Mathematics Assessment?
- Not true. A student may use a multiplication
table on the parts of the assessment on which a
calculator is allowed.
6Can students use a calculator on all parts of the
KAMM Mathematics Assessment?
- No. Due to new federal guidelines for the KAMM
Assessment, it must mirror the general
assessments and therefore it must have a
non-calculator section.
7Is it true that when a students IEP includes a
statement that he/she will be allowed to use a
calculator on all parts of the State Mathematics
Assessment (KAMM or the general assessment), then
the school must let them use a calculator.
- Yes, however, the student will be counted as not
participating.
8May a school district allow more than of 3 of
their students to take the KAMM and Alternate
Assessments?
- Yes. A district may have a combination of more
than 3 of their students take the KAMM and
Alternate, but can only count 3 as meeting
standard
9Can a building have more than 3 of their
students who take the KAMM and Alternate
Assessments counted as meets standard?
- Yes. A district cannot exceed 3 of their
students taking the KAMM and Alternate as meeting
standard. A building may exceed 3.
10Can a district count more than 1 of students
taking the Alternate assessment as meets
standard?
- No. A district may count no more than 1 of
their students who take the Alternate Assessment
as meets standard.
11Can a district count more than 2 of students
taking the KAMM Assessment as meets standard?
- Yes. If a district has less than 1 of their
students making meets standard on the Alternate
Assessment, than they may add the difference to
the 2 who meet standard on the KAMM
Assessment. The opposite is not true. A
district may never count more than 1 as meets
standard on the Alternate Assessment
12How many sessions and how much time needs to be
allowed for the Reading Assessment?
- Three 45 to 60 minutes sessions are need for the
Reading Assessment
13My district can only choose to take either the
paper/pencil assessment or the Kansas
Computerized Assessment?
- Districts choose the appropriate format, either
paper/pencil or KCA according to the needs of the
student
14If an ELL student enrolled after Feb. 18, 2007,
does that student take the Reading Assessment
this year? Would that same student take the Math
Assessment this year?
- No, an ELL student enrolled after Feb. 18, 2007
will take the KELPA instead of the Reading
Assessment. That same student would take the
state Math Assessment
15Is the computer audio available for the Kansas
Computerized Assessment?
- No, the computer audio is no longer available for
the Kansas Computerized Assessment
16Can any part of the Reading Assessment be read
aloud?
- After training for the Read Aloud Accommodation,
the directions and questions can be read aloud
for the Reading Assessment. No part of the
passage may be read
