Plagiarism
  • Plagiarism is submitting the work of someone else
and passing it off as your own.
  • This includes
  • copying the work of another student in your year
group or in previous year groups.
  • Copying and pasting writing from the internet or
    books.
  • The consequences of plagiarising can be very
    severe.
  • The best case scenario will be that you will be
made to re-write your piece in controlled
conditions with no opportunity to redraft.
  • However we have entered a zero mark for
    candidates that have plagiarised.
  • It is also not in your best interest to
plagiarise as there is no guarantee that the work
you are copying is of a high quality and you will
    always be caught in moderation.

How Can I Support my Child?
  • Be aware of the deadlines for the completion of
    coursework.
  • Encourage them to keep up with the deadlines as
it is very difficult to write about a text when
    returning to it after sometime.
  • Take an interest in what they are doing.
  • Share your own (positive) experiences of studying
classic texts such as Great Expectations.
  • Help them to proof-read their work before they
hand it in. A fresh pair of eyes can often see
    what a tired pair misses.
  • Encourage them as readers of both fiction and
non-fiction. Those who read on a regular basis,
on average do 20 better than those who dont.
  • Buy a broadsheet newspaper every day and
incorporate the reading of this into your daily
    routine (modelling good reading habits).
