Liposomes are microscopic, spherical vesicles
that form when hydrated phospholipids arrange
themselves in circular sheets enclosing an
aqueous core.

Depending on the preparation process and the
chemical composition, liposomes are formed with
one or several concentric bilayers.

Liposomal formulations have been test to enhance
diagnostic media including ultrasound, computed
tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
and nuclear imaging techniques.

• Cosmetic

Liposomes can encapsulate a variety of cosmetic
ingredients to increase the skin humidity and
elasticity. Oil soluble UV filter are also
encapsulated

Their use are based on their emulsifying
properties.

• Ecology

1. Liposomes help to disperse the oil phase.
2. They supplies micro-organisms which will
   eventually decompose organic matter.

Mixing liposomes with charged nanoparticle
produces particle stabilized liposome. So
fluorescent dyes and drugs can encapsulated
within the stabilized liposomes without leakage.

Liposomes change phase when heated or cooled to
their phase-transition temperature. Liposomes may
be heated by external stimulation tp allow
release of their contents. Moreover, the
combination of different treatment methods (e.g.
drug and irradiation) could provide the benfits
of each technique.
