3- Technology development applications engineering
- Supply niche industrial markets since 1980
- OEM and Aftermarket/Retrofit
- Custom-manufacturing capabilities in USA, Canada
Europe - UL-approved, ISO 9001
4Emission Control Solutions
Closed-Loop 3-Way Catalyst
Particulate Filter
LPG (LSI)
Diesel (CI)
5Californias Need
- State Implementation Plan (SIP) federal
requirement to improve air quality - (HCNOx) Smog/ozone-causing emissions
- PM Toxic Diesel Particulate Matter
6CARBs Approach
- Regulatory Activity
- Various equipment types industries affected
- New engines / manufacturers cleaner engines
- Existing engines / operators Fleet Average
- Fuel quality
- Voluntary Projects
- Emission Upgrade Incentive Funding Programs
7Effect on Operators
- Investments in emissions upgrades
- Options
- new/upgraded vehicles
- new/upgraded engines
- retrofit existing fleet
- remove from service
8Our Proposal
- Use Carl Moyer Incentive Funding to retrofit
equipment - Voluntary emission reductions- ahead of the
regulations - Must be surplus- Moyer will not pay to meet a
regulation - Up to 100 rebate for all hardware/labor costs
- Based on engine model year and HP, annual hours
of use, project life years, retrofit technology - Moyer pays maximum 14,300 per ton of (HCNOx) or
PM reduced
9The Catch
- Act quickly to ensure surplus reductions Moyer
eligibility - Minimum 3-year project life
- Commit to annual hours of operation
- will be based on normal/expected usage
- Simple annual reporting
- vehicle is still in use and hours used in the year
10LSI Standards Fleet Average Requirements
11TermiNOx
- 3-Way Purimuffler (catalytic muffler)
- closed-loop air/fuel ratio controller (ECU)
- Upgrades open-loop engines to current state of
technology available from OEMs - Available since mid-1990s- CO reduction/OSHA
- 10-20 reduction in fuel consumption
- CARB funded approx. 150 retrofits throughout
California (ERC project) prior to verification
12TermiNOx Components
Wire Harness
3-Way Purimuffler
ECU Control Box
Oxygen Sensor
Actuator
13ARB Verification
- First only ARB-verified LSI retrofit (Dec. 9,
2005) - 1.0 g/bhp-hr (NOxHC)
- exceeds proposed 2016 Fleet Average requirement
- gt 90 (HCNOx) reduction
- Eligible for Carl Moyer funding
14The Proper Fit for Every Application
- Product specific to truck, engine and fuel system
- Not a generic/universal fit
- Optimized ECU Program (emissions and drivability)
- Direct-fit muffler replacement (no exhaust system
modifications needed)
15Retrofit Expenses
16Cost-Effectiveness Example
- 60HP engine, 3-year project
- _at_1200 hours/year 4,855 / ton (HCNOx)
- _at_500 hours/year 11,653 / ton (HCNOx)
17In-use Off-road Diesel rule
- Currently in development stages at CARB
- No regulation yet, therefore eligible for Carl
Moyer funding
18Diesel Projects
- Catalytic converters (DOC) 20-40 PM reduction
- typical hardware cost 750 - 2000
- also reduce CO and diesel smells by up to 90
- Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) gt85 PM
reduction - typical hardware cost 3,000 - 15,000
- no black smoke emissions
- combine with DOC for CO/smell control
- Evaluation of application needed to select
product type
19Summary
- CARB-verified proven technologies for
LPG/gasoline and diesel equipment - Carl Moyer funds available now
- up to 100 rebate
- comply ahead of the regulations
- Existing customer support networks
