Why the Constitution is Important

• It allows you to gather with people----
• You can protect yourself with fire arms
• You can take a vacation and keep your house
• The area you live in will not change into another
  area
• More than one person is the part of the
  government
• You will not go to jail if you are not proved to
  be guilty of a crime
• You have 12 hours to vote so you have plenty of
  time to
• There has to be at least two witness to put you
  in jail for treason
• You will never be exiled out of the state

The 1901 Constitution

• In 1901 the Alabama constitution was in favor of
  landowners
• The government took money from blacks and poor
  white men
• The farmers alliance forced a rewrite of the
  constitution
• The constitution of 1901 was made to keep taxes
  low

You Can In 1901 Vote If

• You had to had lived in Alabama for 2 years
• Pay a poll tax of 1.50
• Had to own property that is worth more than 300
  or 40 acres
• Had to be able to read English writing

Rights of the People

• Women wanted their right to vote in 1901 but they
  didnt get it until 1920
• White Men had most of the rights since Alabamas
  governments beginning
• Blacks couldnt vote in 1901
• They have rights now
• Women and Blacks had to protest for their right
  to vote
• Women and White Men shared the same mind of who
  to vote for
• Had money taken away from them if they were poor
