3Description
The jaguar is the largest cat in the
Americas. The jaguar has a compact body and
powerful jaws. Jaguars eat deer, peccary,
crocodiles, snakes, monkeys, deer, sloths,
tapirs, turtles, eggs, frogs, fish and anything
else it can catch. The jaguar is the least
studied big cat in the world.
4Hunting and Behavior
- The jaguar hunts mostly on the ground, but it
sometimes climbs a tree and pounces on its prey
from above. - Unlike most big cats, the jaguar loves the water.
It often swims, bathes and plays in streams and
pools. - It will also hunt for fish in the water.
5Location and Habitat
- The jaguar is found in Arizona,New Mexico, and
Texas all the way down to Patagonia - The jaguar makes its home in deciduous forests,
rainforests, swamps, pampas grasslands and
mountain scrub areas
6Threats and how you can Help!
- Human population growth and agriculture
expansion. As well as hunting and poaching
threaten the jaguars. - To help the jaguars we can build parks for them
to live in.
