- The surrealist art movement started in France in
the early 1920s. The movement soon spread
throughout Europe and to North and South America.
The surrealist style is most known for being
fantasy-like and realistic but imaginary. It is
like putting a dream on canvas.

- The Surrealist art movement was important to the
history of art because it explored the
imagination in a weird and quirky way. Although
it flourished in the 1920s, Surrealism is still
an important style of art. Without Surrealism
many artists would not have found their perfect
style of painting and we would have missed out on
some great artists, which changed the mindset of
people.
