Title: NOISE POLLUTION
1NOISE POLLUTION
2 About NOISE
- It is difficult to define the concept of NOISE
because any sound can be unpleasant depending on
the physical and physical conditions of the
receptor. - We can define NOISE as a unarticulated,
crosstalk, more or lees deep and always
unpleasant sound.
3SOUND and LOUDNESS LEVEL
SOUND is the loudness sensation which is received
by acoustic nerve through the different
structures of the ear. LOUDNESS LEVE (I) is the
quantity of energy (E) transported by a wave in a
time unit (t) and area (S). To calculate the
loudness level we can use the following
formula The loudness (in honour of Graham
Bell) is measured in bel or in submultiples
called decibel (dB). The lowest loudness level
is 0dB and more than 120dB the loudness sensation
is painful.
4NOISE sources
According to WHO (World Health Organisation) the
main sources of noise are the following.
INDUSTRY the machinery used is the principal
source of noise in industrial activities. More
power, more noise. TRANSPORTS specially the road
transport, depending on the speed and way
characteristics. BUILDING activities. The
machinery used in building activities causes
noise. DOMESTIC activities, as cleaning, TV and
radio sets, appliances, family life, pets, pipes,
tanks which produce private and uncontrolled
noises. Other INDIVIDUAL sources related to
leisure time as cafes, pubs, restaurants,
discos, fairs, etc..

7Solutions to NOISE POLLUTION (I)
- CORRECTION MEASURES These initiatives are based
on the noise limitation and reduction in the
emission source, and on the exposed population
protection. The measures can be - Administrative Regulations intended to establish
the emission minimum levels of noise according to
its origin - Direct actions about emission sources, how to
limit the activity level or to reduce the noise,
geographical isolation of noisy activities,
building soundproofing, etc.
8Solutions to NOISE POLLUTION (and II)
PREVENTIVE MEASURES Initiatives based on plan
intended to prevents noise pollution
- Land use planning restricting certain activities
to in specific areas - Urban planning, building under sustainability
criteria suitable location and distribution of
housing and other of similar nature - Environmental awareness and education addressed
to aware population about the noise, problems
and effects - Environmental impact studies intended to help
the decision makers in the policies design,
specially in land use planning and location of
industrial activities.
