Title: Cherry Orchard Primary

1
Cherry Orchard Primary Curriculum Development
2
Blocked curriculum
  • Originally a DfES initiative.
  • Adapted the foundation subjects to be taught in
blocks rather than one lesson a week. Blocks
organised to build upon previous learning.
  • Themed approach 2007/08 linking all curriculum
    areas.

3
Reasons for development
  • ECM
  • Key aspects
  • Primary frameworks
  • Personalisation

4
ECM/Keys Aspects
  • Introduction of focus weeks linked to ECM and Key
Aspects. E.g. Problem solving Week, World of Work
week, Creative Arts and Summer 2008
    Communication week.
  • Excellence and enjoyment
  • Real life experiences.
  • SIP 2007/08 Sustainability, Maths in the Real
World, Primary Strategy through new technologies.

5
Primary Framework
  • To be part of the curriculum by September 2008.
  • Staff training.
  • Implementation of strategies e.g. one unit of
work planned in Spring term 07.
  • Part of SIP 2007/08. Using new technologies to
support the teaching of English and Maths.
  • Regular monitoring and support by English and
    Maths leaders.
  • Maths and English lessons given a context from
    other curriculum areas.

6
Personalisation
  • Our children have limited opportunities for first
hand knowledge and so we have extended these by
providing a wider range of experiences.
  • Constantly reviewing and changing the curriculum.
  • Providing opportunities for children to use a
    range of learning styles.

7
Leadership
  • Setting and monitoring the SIPs.
  • Staff ownership of the curriculum.
  • Staff given half termly meetings to annotate
medium term plans with the SIPs, key aspects and
    the Media Project in mind.
  • Book sampling to check cross-curricular links.
Staff given opportunity to highlight any areas.
  • Assessment focuses of each unit are clear on
medium term plan and records folders.
  • Review at Senior Leadership Meetings.

8
Impact
  • Pupil voice - questions
  • Staff feedback.
  • Assessment data.
  • Is attainment gap closing? Tracking six
under-achieving children from a range of ethnic
    groups.

9
What now?
  • Cherry Orchard media group.
  • Teaching of skills throughout the curriculum.
    Starting with ICT.
  • Further staff training with Media in Mind.
    E.g. Audacity, digi-blue, Movie Maker.
  • Creation of new SIPs.
