Cedar Ridge Elementary School

• Honor School of Excellence with 90.4 of students
  at or above grade level and met Adequate Yearly
  Progress (AYP)
• A Highly qualified staff maintains a caring and
  student-centered facility.
• Intervention/remediation/acceleration programs
  for at risk students such as First Steps,
  Waterford, and one-on-one tutoring

Cedar Ridge Elementary School

• Strong community relations through volunteer
  programs and community events
• Supplemental/incentive programs are provided and
  include Accelerated Reader, Accelerated Math,
  Star Reading, Star Math, Early Literacy, After
  School Literacy Club, and After School Math Club,
  among others.

• WCRE-TV a live weekly in-house TV broadcast
  that celebrates excellence and keeps the school
  family informed.

  students
• Current enrollment 466

• Mobile Units Three (3) are currently on campus
• Force students to enter and exit main building
  several times during each school day
• Internet access is not reliable.

Cedar Ridge Elementary School

• Overcrowding creates a strain on the overall
  infrastructure of the school.
• The cafeteria, media center, restroom facilities,
  gymnasium, and all other common areas are
  insufficient to accommodate the extra students.
• Lunch begins at 1030 a.m. and ends at 100 p.m.
• The onsite water and sewage systems are working
  beyond the required limits.

• Office space is limited
• ELL/Diagnostician/Psychologist share work space.
• Closet/storage areas are used for tutoring and
  small group instruction.
• All media workrooms are used as classroom space.

• School of Distinction 1997-2003

• Teachers and teaching assistants are highly
  qualified Six teachers have their National Board
  Certification.
• NC Physical Education Demonstration site
• Serves a very supportive community with over
  4,000 volunteer hours donated to the school
  during the 2003-2004 school year.

• The intercom, bell, clock, and fire systems are
  28 years old and require much maintenance to keep
  them working properly.

  250/period with a maximum of 1,000 total)

• Guidance area (total size of 1 classroom) is
  shared by 3 school counselors and 1 clerical
  staff member
• QZAB renovations (summer 2004) upgraded student
  restroom facilities and will provide new windows
  and a new roof for the field house.

• Investigate sales tax increase for all citizens
  to contribute to costs
• Cafeteria concerns at North Surry
• Concerns with shared space for fine arts programs
  at North Surry
• Safety issues related to mobile units

  overcrowdedness
