  • The word holocaust itself comes from ancient
    Greek and means destroying something by burning.
    The term became known after the war in 1948.
    Scientists, historians and politicians have been
    discussing the reasons of the Holocaust. It is
    hard to understand why and how it all happened.

  • The Holocaust is the term generally used to
    describe the genocide of approximately six
    million European Jews during World War II, as
    part of a program of deliberate extermination
    planned and executed by the National Socialist
    regime in Germany led by Adolf Hitler. The word
    "holocaust" has been used since the 18th century
    to refer to the violent deaths of a large number
    of people.

  • Other groups were persecuted and killed by the
    regime, including the Roma Soviets, particularly
    prisoners of war ethnic Poles other Slavic
    people the disabled gay men and political and
    religious dissidents, such as Jehovahs
    witnesses.

  • The Holocaust is a total disaster. Men, women,
    children were killed with no mercy. There were
    several concentration camps, the the largest of
    Nazy Germany's concentration camps was located
    in German-occupied southern Poland in
    Auschwitz-Birkenau.
  • The Soviets liberated Auschwitz, the largest
    extermination and concentration camp, in January
    1945. In the following months, the Soviets
    liberated additional camps in the Baltic states
    and in Poland

  • Estonia can relate to the disaster of the
    Holocaust. In the years of 1941 and 1942 about
    1000 Jews of Estonia were killed. In the years of
    1942, 1943, Jews of the Czeck and Germany were
    brought to Estonia and killed here. The map of
    the nationalities brought to Auschwitz let us
    know that some of the people from Narva and
    Viljandi also arrived.

    remembered on 27th January.
  • We cannot change the past, but we have to know
    what happnend to prevent something like this to
