  • Not subject specific
  • Not a stand-alone course
  • And do not call for new resources

7
The Standards
  • Provide common language for the school
    community
  • Support what we know about the needs of young
    adolescents

8
Middle School CSR The Perfect Match!
  • A successful school for young adolescents is an
inviting, supportive, and safe place, a joyful
community that promotes in-depth learning and
    enhances students physical and emotional
    well-being.
  • In a healthy school environment, statements of
    encouragement positive feedback substantially
    outnumber disciplinary or correctional comments.
  • (This We Believe - Successful Schools for
    Young Adolescents (National Middle School
    Association, 2003)

9
Main ThemesThe Non-Negotiables

taught, not as a separate entity but integrated
within curricular work. (guided by Policy I-1)
  • Students engage in self-assessments monitor
    their growth.

and social responsibility is arrived through
teacher collaboration. Its a team approach.
  • Although the homeroom teacher is likely the most
responsible person for filling in the report card
(M or G) including the Comments, all teachers
who teach the student are responsible to provide
input into the citizenship and social
    responsibility assessment.
  • The information provided to students and to
parents in a summative assessment of citizenship
    reflects a students most consistent
