Title: Small Steps, Great Beginnings
1Small Steps, Great Beginnings
- South Ayrshire Community

- Public Partnership Forum (PPF)
2May 2006 -
- First meeting of interested voluntary
organisations and community council members - Elected members take up Core Group memberships
- 6 voluntary organisation members
- 6 Community council members
3Did that earlier slide make it sound so simple?
- Problems, problems, problems
- Why were they there?
- Could we all get in?
- Who was who?
- We learned from all of the above
4Small steps
- Next meeting June 2006
- A Chair and Vice Chair are elected
- So too are the PPF representatives on the
Community Health Partnership (CHP) Committee - Initial working agreement discussed
- Progress and all in one and a half hours
5Further small steps
- Working agreement between the PPF and the CHP
develops - Through this process Core Group members learn
more about what a PPF is and its influencing
capabilities - PPF representatives begin to attend CHP Committee
meetings - Network is tested with the first distributions of
information - Core Group feedback indicates a need for a
Consultation Protocol and for both hard copy and
email distribution
6Yet another step
- January 2007 - PPF Coordinator begins work
- The wider network grows to include additional
groups and individuals - Top down information is continued to be shared
through the network - Information leaflets developed
- Promotional materials identified
7Left Foot, Right Foot - Starting to gather pace
now!
- Initial training provided to Core Group members
- Processes for bringing community ideas and
concerns are considered and discussed - We now not only had top down process but also a
bottom up process
8So processes are in place but what can our PPF do
and provide?
9South Ayrshire PPF providesMembers with

14South Ayrshire PPF influences with suggestions
from its communities

letter to referred patients
15Community Occupational Therapy acknowledgment
letter to referred patients
- A PPF member suggested changes to the standard
acknowledgement letter - The changes were based on what information could
make an improved difference to them - The Core Group members thought the information
requested was reasonable and achievable
16Community Occupational Therapy acknowledgment
letter to referred patients
- Changes requested were providing information on
- the maximum length of time someone can expect to
wait for an assessment before contacting the
department and - Information about the Disability Resource Centre,
Ayr for patients wishing to travel for their
assessment
17Community Occupational Therapy acknowledgment
letter to referred patients
- CHP shared suggestions with local authority
colleagues - Letter reviewed and amended
18Whats next?
- Continue sharing information
- Continue to provide engagement opportunities
- Bigger projects will be chosen and undertaken by
the PPF members for example discharges from
hospitals
19 So in summary Small steps that change the
world, small steps that need not seem to be
revolutionary ones, but small ones that go beyond
an individual level, and make a difference
. Puru Gupta Maybe we will not be changing
the world nor will it be called revolutionary but
we are going beyond that individual level. The
Public Partnership Forum can make a difference to
the health and wellbeing of all the people in
South Ayrshire. Great Beginnings!
