Creating Your Document with a Wizard
  • Word has a number of wizards that can walk you
    through each step of creating
  • a particular type of document.

Opening an Existing Template
  • In Word, click the File menu and click New. In
    the New Document task pane, click the On My
    Computer link.
  • Click the Start menu, choose Programs (or All
    Programs), and then click New Office Document.

  • You can also make changes to a template and save
    it as your own.

  • You can create your own template from scratch.
  • Save as a .dot file.

Attaching a Template to a Document
  • Click the Tools menu and click Templates and
    Add-ins.
  • Click the Attach button.
  • Browse to the file you want to attach.
  • Click to select it and click Open.
  • Click OK to close out of the Templates and
    Add-ins box.

About Global Templates
  • Normal.dot is a special kind of template called
    a global template.
  • Applies to all documents, no matter what the
    document type.
  • Normal.dot is loaded every time you open Word.

Types of Lists
  • There are three types of lists you can create
    with the bullets and numbering tool.

Creating a Bulleted or Numbered List
  • You can create a bulleted or numbered list in one
    of three ways.
  • Begin a line with a number or a dash and press
    Enter. (There are no keyboard shortcuts for other
    bullet icons.) Word will automatically start a
    list.
  • Create your list and apply bullets and numbers.
  • Turn bullets or numbers on and then create your
    list.

Modifying and Removing Bulleted or Numbered Lists
  • Click the numbering icon on the standard toolbar
    to remove numbering. (If you have applied
    bullets, you would click the bullet icon to turn
    it off.)
  • Right-click the text, click Bullets and
    Numbering, and choose your selected style in the
    dialog box. (If you want to remove bullets or
    numbering, click None.) Click OK.
  • Click the Format menu, click Bullets and
    Numbering, and choose your selected style in the

Restarting or Continuing a Bulleted or Numbered
List
  • To continue a numbered list later on in your
    document
  • Make sure the first list is created properly.
  • Select the second list.
  • Click the Format menu and click Bullets and
    Numbering, or right-click on the text and click
    Bullets and Numbering.
  • Click the Numbers tab and select the style you
    used previously.
  • Check the box Continue previous list.
  • Click OK.

Using Outlined Lists
  • You can set different levels of a list by
    pressing Tab.

  • You can customize bullets, numbers and outline
    styles from the Bullets and Numbers dialog.
