The Science of Geology

• Geologists are scientists who study the forces
  that make and shape planet Earth.
• Geologist study the chemical and physical
  characteristics of rock, the material that forms
  Earth's hard surface.
• Geologists study the processes that create
  Earths features and search for clues about
  Earths history.

Studying Surface Changes

• Destructive forces- are those that slowly wear
  away mountains and, eventually, every other
  feature on the surface.
• Example- Oceans waves wear away coastlines.

• Constructive forces- shape the surface by
  building up mountains and landmasses.
• Example- Volcanoes make islands like Hawaii.

• -There are seven great land masses on Earth,
  these masses are called continents.
