DSpace for E-Theses
  • Introducing the results of the Theses Alive!
    Project at Edinburgh University Library, in the
    form of the Tapir (Theses Alive Plugin for
    Institutional Repositories) and the Edinburgh
    Research Archive (ERA) wherein examples of
    implementation are presented and features
    discussed in the context of using DSpace for
    E-Theses.

  • Adapt and develop an open-source package for use
    across the UK
  • Produce an OAI-compliant E-Thesis repository
  • Develop a pilot national service with the aim of
    supporting E-Theses creation and management for
    UK universities
  • Produce an institutional guide to adopting and

  • Collect 500 E-Theses in the UK segment of the
    NDLTD

  • Flexibility with metadata and storage methods
    lacks some of the fields that will be required
    for E-Theses, and the flexibility to change this
    easily.

  • Geared towards Digital Preservation supports
    OAI-PMH v2.0 and has good restriction features
  • Administration and Security
  • Configurable with superior methodology, although
    some shortcomings exist workflow is rigid no
    supervisory facilities policies are too complex
    to administer quickly and easily.
