Upon a Stable Infrastructure, we built our Web
Presence.

• In 2006, the City Web presence needed vast
  improvement.
• We had some very significant challenges with our
  existing Web presence at the City of Campbell
  River.
• Intranet (the Ugly Green Thing)
• Internet (hard to maintain, hard to navigate)
• Extranet / Community Portal (non-existent)
• The City partnered with BurntSand Inc. of
  Vancouver for our web design and development
  needs and decided on Sharepoint.
• We looked at other software options in 2006. We
  wanted a single product solution for web design,
  content management and portal.

City Vision for the Extranet Community Portal

• There is no recognized community portal for our
  area. No first point of contact for
  visitors to our community.
• Visitors wanting to inquire about Campbell
  River are currently forced to go to a
  number of sites trying to find the information
  they require (e.g. City of Campbell River,
  Tourism Campbell River, Chamber of
  Commerce)
• Sites that are an integral part of a Community
  Portal must live in the same Content
  Management System for ease of service
  delivery up to the portal, so Content Management
  is a must for Portal Partners.
• So, we created a Community Portal using
  Sharepoint 2007.
• It is just on the edge of delivery.
