22What Is It ?????
Credit
23Credit is
- For the first time, in high school, you will earn
credit for each course that you pass. - For a semester course, you will earn ½ credit.
- For a full year course, you will earn 1 credit.
24What if I fail a course required for graduation?
25- You will not be able to graduate until you pass
the course and earn the credit.
26What Are The Two Ways Credit Can Be Earned ?
271
Earn a final grade of 70 or higher in your
classes.
2
Attend each class at least 90 of the time.
28Besides graduation, why are credits important?
- The number of credits you have determines your
grade level. You cannot be moved to the next
grade level unless you have the proper number of
credits
29Credits needed
- Classification
CreditsFreshman 0.0 4.5(However, if
you dont earn credit in English 1 and Algebra,
you cannot be promoted regardless of the number
of credits you earn.)? - Sophomore 5.0 10.5Junior
11.0 16.5Senior
17.0 - Your class, the Class of 2011, must earn 26
credits to graduate.
30Whats a GPA?
- Grade Point Average You accumulate a GPA at the
end of each semester. - Each grade you make is assigned a grade point
value. For example, if you make 95 in regular
English 1, you receive 95 grade points. - At the end of the semester, your total number of
grade points is divided by your total number of
classes for your GPA. Example If you make all
95s in 7 classes, your GPA would be 95. 95 X 7
(665) divided by 7 classes 95
31- As you move through high school, your grade
points and semesters accumulate, and your GPA
changes according to each semesters grades. - When you graduate, your final GPA is posted on
your transcript. - Why is that important?
32- You will be ranked in your class according to
your grade point. - The top 10 of graduating seniors will be
automatically accepted at any state supported
school. - Your GPA will be a factor in admission to some
colleges. - Your GPA will be a factor in receiving
scholarships. - So remember
33- The grades you make as a Freshman are just as
important as the grades you make as a Senior!
