19
Developing a Rubric
  • How Do You Define Technology Integration?
  • What are Your Expectations for Technology
    Integration?
  • Remember a Rubric is to Eliminate Subjectivity
  • Do You Observe IT or Not
  • Select at Least Five Look Fors That Will
    Become the Rubric.

20
Assignment of Groups
  • Establish Five Groups, mix the group so there is
    diversity of relationships
  • The Groups will be used to develop a rubric and
to discuss / respond to the Case Study
  • Determine Roles Within the Group, ie reporter,
facilitator, role player (if preferred), etc
  • Discuss the Issues and Form Responses

21
Case Study Exercise
  • You have a teacher (groups decide level and / or
subject area) who has been a marginal teacher
during your tenure as principal. The teacher has
received continuing contract and teaches in an
area where teachers are very difficult to locate
and hire. All past evaluations have been
completed as acceptable, but everyone knows
the teacher is marginal at best. The
Superintendent has challenged you to evaluate
this teacher fairly and consistently, but get to
the bottom of the on-going complaints. The School
Board Chairmans daughter will be in this
    teachers class next year.

22
Case Study Exercise
  • One of the biggest complaints you receive from
parents and students is that the teacher plays
on the computer much of the time. However every
time you perform a classroom visit, she is
lecturing to the class or is transitioning to a
lecture. You have asked your technology
specialist to track her internet use and really
dont come up with anything useful. You discuss
the issue with the teacher and the teacher
assures you all computer work is related to
    instructional work. Like the teachers
performance, lesson planning is marginal and very
global ie. SOL 4.2 Illustrate via the Web.

23
Case Study Exercise
  • Describe the process you will use to investigate
these continuing complaints about her computer
playing and talk about what expectations you
will establish to assure computer use is
    consistent with your expectations for
    instruction.

24
Part III of the Presentation

  • Debriefing of the Case Study

25

  • Can They Become the Basis for a Rubric?
  • What Things Did You See in the Demonstration
    Lesson That You Expected?
  • What Things Did You See in the Demonstration
Lesson That You Did NOT Expect

28
