  • the French word for rebirth
  • Rebirth of learning in Europe
  • Was the result of the Crusades and trade in
    distant lands
  • Through trade, people became curious about the
    world
  • Began in northern Italy and spread to the rest of
    Europe

  • Wealthy and powerful middle class
  • Used wealth to support artists, architects, and
    to encourage learning
  • Renewed interest in the study of ancient Greece
    and Rome
  • Encouraged the study of humanities taught in

    grammar
