Effective Citizenship and Education

• 10.03- Evaluate the importance of supporting,
  nurturing, and educating oneself in the United
  States society.
• 10.04-Demonstrate characteristics of effective
  citizenship.

A. Effective Citizenship

• Voluntary Compliance- willingly complying with
  laws and acting in a civil manner
• Volunteerism- volunteering time energy to a
  worthy causes
• Community Spirit- Pride in ones community a
  desire to make it better through community
  service and giving time/money to charities
• Patriotism- love devotion to the US, a duty to
  participate in the political and judicial process
• Respecting the Rights of Others- respecting
  peoples individual rights (1st Amendment),
  property rights (right to own property), and
  tolerance
• Paying Taxes- pay local, state, and fed. taxes
• Voting- take the time to vote!!

B. Education

• 1. Life Long Learner
• Getting a formal education greater earning
  capacity (higher paying jobs)
• Continuing to educate yourself on issues even
  after you graduate (newspapers, classes)
• 2. Informed Citizens
• A. someone who takes the time to understand
  issues in politics and has an intellectual
  opinion
• 3. To do both
• A. Self Motivation- be willing to take action to
  better yourself
• B. Literate- be able to read and write
