Project Requirements
  • Our team was required to build a spaghaper
bridge -that is to span a distance of 20 in.
using nothing but spaghetti noodles, glue, and
newspaper. The height and the width of the bridge
can be no more than 5 x 5. Our provided
materials were scissors, rulers, and a measuring
    scale.

3
Judging Criteria
  • The ratio of load held to device weight
  • Aesthetics of device
  • Teamwork skills exhibited
  • Technical report completion
  • Project presentation
  • Webpage
  • Cleanliness of workstation after project
    completion.

4
Our Spaghaper Design
  • The design of our Spaghaper Bridge consisted of
bundles of spaghetti glued together and the
rolled in newspaper. The three-bundle beams were
connected using shorter bundles attached in a
    pattern.

5
Experimental Procedure
  • For testing our device, our bridge will lay
across two cinder blocks while a bucket dangles
from the middle of the bridge. The bucket will
steadily be filled with sand until the bridge
meets ultimate failure. Hopefully our triangular
design will uphold to the allotted payload.

6
References
  • Our first reference which gave us an idea for our
    design is www.ferris.edu
  • Our second reference was www.abcdpittsburg.org
  • Though we only listed two there are many more.

7
Safety
  • Did not run with scissors.
  • We did not waste nor misuse our spaghetti supply
    in any way.
  • We did not sniff glue or smoke our spaghetti
    bundles.
  • Also, we wore safety glasses during testing!

8
Predictions
  • Our prediction is that our bridge will hold 11
    pounds.
  • We believe it will continuously bend until it
    snaps.
  • We believe ours will break towards the end.
