Title: Its May 14th' I just received my ACCESS scores'

1
Its May 14th.I just received my ACCESS scores.
  • Now What?

2
This is what youve been waiting for!
  • Take a deep breath.
  • Get some help.
  • Get ready to do some paperwork!

3
Whats What? REPORTS
  • School Frequency Reports
  • The number and percentage of students in each
proficiency level for each section of the ACCESS.
  • If there were less than 10 students in a grade
    level, the report is blank.
  • This will help you plan your instruction for next
year. Target your areas of weakness.

4
Whats What? REPORTS
  • Student Roster Reports
  • Alphabetical listing of students tested
  • Tier and Cluster taken
  • Scale score and proficiency level for each
    student
  • At the end of the school year, you may be asked
to provide some of this data to summer school
    administrators.

5
Whats What? REPORTS
  • Student Record Labels
  • These are stickers that need to be placed in the
students permanent files, just like ITBS and
    CRCT scores.
  • There should be one for each student.
  • Not a bad idea to make yourself a copy of these
before you start sticking them in folders.

6
Whats What? REPORTS
  • Teacher Reports
  • One for each student.
  • This is for School Use Only!
  • I like to have a copy in my ESOL files.
  • I like to copy the Parent Report on the back of
    this report.
  • Original should end up in the students permanent
    file.
  • Share this with the students other teachers.

7
Whats What? REPORTS
  • Parent/Guardian Report
  • Keep a copy of this for your ESOL files.
  • Cobb Last year, a copy of the parent report was
    also sent to the IWC.
  • The Original goes to the parents along with a
    copy of the ACCESS Brochure.
  • Some schools may also choose to include a cover
letter with contact information in case the
    parents have questions.
  • Your county may recommend that these go home with
    report cards.

8
Whats What? REPORTS
  • Interpretive Summary
  • Provides basic information about scores.
  • The complete Interpretive Guide can be downloaded
    from WIDA.
  • Can Do Descriptors
  • These correspond to proficiency levels.
  • These can be helpful when talking to parents and
other teachers about what the scores say about
    the childs abilities.

9
When to do What?
  • You cant exit students until you get CRCT
    scores, BUT. . . .
  • Students are always in flux.
  • Someone might want this information over the
    summer.
  • Keep those Permanent Files up to date!!
  • Teacher Reports
  • Stick on Score labels

10
Year End Projections
  • Your administration will want to know what you
expect for ESOL next year. How do you figure
    this out?
  • You will get ACCESS scores before the end of the
    school year (hopefully).
  • You wont get CRCT scores before the end of the
    year.
  • You might get 3rd and 5th grade CRCT failure
lists before the end of the year.

11
Who Will Definitely Exit ESOL?Grades 1-5
  • Tier C only!
  • Score of at least Level 5.
  • Pass the CRCT in Reading comprehension (in other
words, be reading on or above grade level)

12
Deal Breakers
  • The student took Tier A or B.
  • The student scored at or below proficiency level
    3.

13
Who Will Exit?Kindergarten
  • Maximum Overall (Composite) score for
    Kindergarten is 3.4
  • Also consider
  • High Oral language score on ACCESS
  • Performance on GKAP/GKIDS
  • Performance on other local assessments

14
Nobodys Perfect
  • Student took Tier C AND
  • Scored at or above proficiency level 4 AND
  • Scored at or above proficiency on the Reading
Comprehension part of the CRCT AND
  • Those in the Language Assessment Conference feel
confident the student no longer needs the support
    of ESOL,
  • THEN, you can exit the student.

15
Nobodys Perfect
  • Student took Tier C AND
  • Scored at or above proficiency level 4 AND
  • Student has been in ESOL for 4 or 5 years AND
  • Student is not making expected progress with ESOL
    services AND
  • Student will be recommended for alternative
    services (RTI)
  • THEN, you MAY consider exiting the student from
ESOL, IF it is in the best interest of the child.

16
LAC
  • LAC Language Assessment Conference.
  • This is the form used for exiting students from
    ESOL.
  • Ideally, this is a meeting between the ESOL
teacher, the classroom teacher, any other
teachers who work with this student, and possibly
    an administrator.

17
LAC 2
  • LAC 2 Supporting documentation from the
classroom teacher that shows how well the student
    is doing in class.
  • This is used for students who may not meet all of
the requirements for exiting, but the teachers
feel that further ESOL services are not in the
    best interest of the child.

18
Exit Paperwork
  • Language Assessment Conference (LAC)
  • This is the only required paperwork when there
are no extenuating circumstances around exiting
    the student.
  • The LAC should be signed by the ESOL teacher, the
    classroom teacher, and the appropriate
    administrator.

19
Additional Exit Paperwork
  • Language Assessment Conference, Classroom
    Evaluation (LAC2)
  • Any other documentation to support your decision
to exit or retain the student.
  • Be careful what you include. Some things should
not go into the students permanent file.
Anecdotal items, psychological reports, etc, are
    not advised. However, academic checklists,
skills assessments, objective data may be ok.

20
Copy and Distribute
  • The original LAC (with the original signatures)
should go into the students permanent file.
  • Copies should go to
  • Your ESOL files
  • The classroom teacher (as a courtesy)
  • The administrator who signed the form
  • The International Welcome Center (IWC) in Cobb
    County

21
But Wait, Theres More!!
  • So, you think you are done? HA!
  • DO something with that DATA!
  • Use it to drive instruction.
  • Identify areas of weaknesses in your students.
  • Identify areas of weakness in your teaching.
  • Brag! Share your success!

22
