Administrative Software
  • Administrative software is software that assists
an educator in accomplishing the administrative,
    professional, and management tasks associated
    with the profession.
  • It is important for educators to know how to
select and use the best software packages that
are available for their use in the classroom.
  • Administrative software includes the following
  • - Productivity software
  • - Classroom management support software

3
Productivity Software
  • Productivity software is typically generic
    business-application software that educators can
use and adapt for the administrative and
professional tasks they must address. Examples
of productivity software would be word
    processing, spreadsheet and database management.
  • ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS
  • - Under administrative tasks, educators can
prepare memos, letters, reports, and budgets.
  • PROFESSIONAL TASKS
  • - The software can also help educators in
    tracking student information, computing grades,
and preparing lesson plans and IEPs
    (Individualized Educational Programs).
  • TEACHING AND LEARNING TASKS
  • - The software can also aid instructors in
    creating student activity sheets,
    transparencies, grade reports, and parent
    letters.
  • The use of software in education is fast
becoming a trend, so it is important that
educators are able to identify and use the right
    software.

Types of Software
  • Administrative software can be bought as the
    following
  • - off-the-shelf commercial packages
  • - programs can be tailor made to fit specific
    schools and school districts
  • - freeware can be obtained at no cost
  • - shareware can be obtained for a limited
amount of time and/or a small fee, but payment
is due after the educator has tried the software
and decided that it is useful to them.
  • Other than paying for shareware and other
software, educators need to remember that there
    are
  • other costs such as the cost to maintain the
software, the cost to learn how to use the
    software
  • (including time), and also the cost to upgrade
the machines that run the software. Software
  • changes quite often, hence the machines need to
be updated to accommodate the new software
  • that have been and will be manufactured.
