Social Work Department Introduction
  • SWD was established in 1997(10th year anniversary
    in 2008)
  • Partner department of HESP,AFP
  • 10 faculty members
  • 275 undergraduate students
  • 30 graduate students
  • IS Dr.Denise Burnette as IS
  • The first SW program undertaking a program
    accreditation

Program mission and objectives
  • Mission-SWD works to prepare qualified social
    workers who are able to make a changes towards
    wellbeing of people and social development.
  • Objectives- develop the methodology and content
    of social work education in line with the policy
    and standards of social work profession
    collaborate with professional communities in
    developing social work research promote public
    awareness on social work profession through
    training, workshops and experience sharing with
    international colleagues

  • 2nd year Introductory field practicum
  • 2 credit hour/2 weeks
  • 3rd year Micro practice field practicum
  • 6 credit hours/ 6 weeks
  • 4th year Macro practice field practicum
  • 8 credit hours/ 8 weeks

Program needs justification
  • The first study A situation analysis to identify
    needs of the SW program was carried out in 1996
    with the initiative of Save the Children UK to
    address child welfare and child protection issues
  • 5 major reviews of the program further identified
    the program needs
  • 1998- from Social development perspective
  • 2000- Development of SW Resource Center strategic
    plan
  • 2002- Evaluation by International expert
  • 2003- Development of core curriculums
  • 2006- since becoming AFP host department

Program needs justification
  • Child and family related courses added to address
    child welfare issues
  • Generalist social work professionals are prepared
    by BSW Program, specialized professionals are
    prepared by MSW Program
  • Shifting from a social work-psychologist major to
    social work major only
  • More focus on linkages between theory and
    practice

Revision of BSW program
  • SWD and MSUE is receptive to needs and changes of
    the program.
  • Initial revision in 1997
  • 2002 revision changed focus of the program
  • 2004 revision incorporated core curriculum
  • 2006 new courses were introduced
  • 2007 increase of field practicum of students

Facilities and equipments
  • 3 classrooms
  • Computer lab with 30 computers for 500 students 1
    in-school and 2 interschool library
  • Although student body increases each year the
    capacity of facility remains the same.
  • LCD and OHP were widely used in classroom
    teaching

  • Video and TVs are utilized occasionally in class
