• Purpose
• Created in 1972
• The major federal-provincial-territorial
  consultative body for geographic information
  management
• Aims

• Discuss proposed legislation (esp. land

What does CCOG Do?

• Meets annually
• Promotes data standards and data sharing
• Helps to raise the profile of geomatics in Canada
  and with senior government officials
• Periodically addresses big policy questions
  (e.g., fee or free debate)
• Directs GeoBase to provide (free) geospatial info
  via Internet
• Canadian Geodetic Reference System Committee to
  plan, maintain improve Canadas Geodetic
  Reference System
• Signed the Canadian Geomatics Accord

• Signed by Ministers 4 federal, 9 provinces, 3
  territories
• Collect data once and closest to the source,
  then use them many times
• a framework for collaborative projects and
  cost-sharing agreements
• strengthens fed./prov./terr. partnerships for
  delivering geospatial data, services and tools
  over the Internet
