Title: International practical experience on implementation of CDM projects
1International practical experience on
implementation of CDM projects
Adrian Stott Skopje, Macedonia 6-7 February 2006
Clean Energy Finance Committee
2Boiler efficiency improvement by an ESCO in
Mongolia
- Anu Service plans to replace up to 100 old
inefficient boilers with new efficient ones
(higher thermal efficiency) - The project will occur at many different
locations within Ulaanbaatar - Sites with large boilers (1.5 MW) could achieve
emission reduction of around 2000 tCO2/yr through
less fossil fuel consumption - PDD as well as new baseline and monitoring
methodology in production
3Container Corporation of Philippines Wastewater
Gas to Energy Project
- Small-scale project at a paper/pulp factory
- Install a upward-flow anaerobic sludge blanket
(UASB) system to improve wastewater treatment - Estimated that the project will reduce 2,677
tCO2e/yr through - - collected biogas used to generate thermal
energy - - energy efficiency improvement
- - methane avoidance (4 times less sludge)
4Screen for Solids
Â
Dissolved Air Floatation (DAF) Tank
 UASB system (The Project)
Biogas used as fuel for the boiler
Activated sludge system
 Solids settling tank
Sludge sent to landfill
Treated wastewater disposed into river
5Zafarana Wind Power Project in Egypt
- 120 MW wind power generation project in Egypt
- 120 x 1 MW wind turbine units
- New methodology for this project was incorporated
in to ACM0002 (consolidated methodology for grid
connected renewable energy projects) - Loan from JBIC
- Expected to generate approximately 225,000
CERs/yr for a maximum of 21 years (7-year
crediting period, renewed twice)
6A.T. Biopower Rice Husk Power Project
- Rice husk (which would otherwise be burnt/left to
decay) used as fuel for electricity generation - Power plant has a generating capacity of 22MW
- Power sold to EGAT
- New baseline and monitoring methodology (AM0004)
accepted by the EB - Expected to generate approximately 83,000 CERs/yr
7PNOC EC Payatas LFG to Energy Project in the
Philippines
- Install LFG collection system and 1 MW electric
generator at Payatas dumpsite - Collected LFG used as fuel in generator and any
excess is flared - Electricity sold to the grid
- Expected to generate over 350,000 CERs/10 years
through LFG destruction and renewable energy - Host country approval pending (1st in
Philippines)

9The Nho Que (Vietnam) Hydropower project
- 113 MW run-of-river hydro power plant
- Small dam constructed as part of the project
(reservoir will flood an area of 0.457 km2) - New 110kV transmissions lines
- New methodology application for low density
vegetation areas, which has provisions for - - methane emissions from the reservoir
- - loss of sink due to inundation
- - production and transport of cement
- Expected to generate over 2.3 million CERs/7
years

11Other examples of some CDM/JI Projects that CEFC
is currently consulting on
- Carbon capture and storage (CCS) project (new
methodology submitted to the MP) - Bumibiopower Methane Extraction and Power
Generation Project in Malaysia (new methodology
AM0013) - Managed forestry and biomass power generation
project in Thailand - Anaerobic digestion of MSW in Indonesia (new
methodology has completed public comments) - Forestry project in Vietnam
