such as battles, births, and deaths of famous

- Short stories or tales that have a moral or teach
a lesson about right and wrong - Often personification is used to comment on human
behavior but not always.

- Takes place in the distant past
- Events are usually impossible
- Often magic such as a fairy godmother or golden
eggs - Heroes are usually human but dwarfs, giants,
witches can be included

- Developed out of the common peoples desire to
know about people of nobility such as kings,
queens, and princesses. - Others involve a hero that leaves home in search
of a goal. - Characters may win a prize or be able to marry a
prince or a princess. - Often use the numbers 3 and 7

- Considered to be true by the people who developed
them.
7Tall Tales
- Also part of oral tradition
- Developed by members of a specific group or
profession - People are fictional
- Began as a competition among workers.

- Recount a real person or event that existed in
the historical past. - Accomplishments may be partly fictional
- Examples

- John Henrys hammer
- Robin Hood and merry men
