The Stillness awareness of Bio-Diversity

• We at Stillness Juniors are becoming increasingly
  aware of the interdependence of living things in
  our environment.
• The new nature reserve will make us aware of
  bio-diversity by encouraging water and plant
  life, to thrive in a secure environment and give
  the school an opportunity to examine and learn
  lessons which will be developed in the classroom.

A Chance for Everything

• The Nature reserve not only contains Rabbits (who
  have recycled paper bedding and get left over
  vegetables from the school kitchen!), but moss
  and tree habitats to encourage birds and
  squirrels.

Ideas for the future

• We will extend the recycling to include
  composting and the introduction of a wormery.
• With the nature reserve we have a wonderful
  resource to encourage and build on the curiosity
  of Stillness boys and girls and increase their
  awareness of nature in our burgeoning urban
  surroundings.

Paper and Plastic

• The school has over the last year made every
  effort to recycle not only paper but plastics and
  textiles.
• Extra recycling bins have helped to incorporate
  not only the classrooms ,but other areas of the
  school not previously included in recycling ,such
  as the school office ,resources room and head
  teacher's office.
• Stillness children have encouraged recycling by
  designing the coveted award certificates for the
  most recycling by individual classes each week.

New clothes for old!

• Textiles such as old school uniform are washed
  and reused in the school.
• All non-uniform items are collected and recycled
  in recycling pods in the borough.

Fun from old wood!

• Stillness has introduced new playground equipment
  (an idea suggested by the school council). The
  equipment is made from recycled wood.
• A further idea will be to introduce sponsored
  benches for the playground again using recycled
  materials.

Looking to the future ?

• The school will build on what has been achieved
  so far by investigating the need for conserving
  energy.
• How can we as a school save electricity, heating
  and water to set an example to our local
  community?

Awareness

• Stillness Juniors has established a firm
  foundation for its pupils, to develop from
  todays curious Eco-warriors , into tomorrows
  environmentally responsible citizens.
