Tips for Q.4, Project 2 Peter Seddon, 12 Sep 2004
2
Accessing the Data Modelling tool in R/3
3
Expand the area of interest by clicking . Then
click Subtree to highlight the objects of
interest.
4
  • Clicking Subtree (previous slide) results in
the subtree being highlighted in yellow.
  • Now click the Graphic icon shown here (red
    arrow).
  • The next screen, Slide 5, shows a graphic
representation of part of the R/3 data model. The
left-hand window is an enlargement of the
    right-hand one.

5
Click an object (red arrow), then Dictionary
(blue arrow). Below, Object 16002 Sales Order
(header) is selected.
6
  • Finally, we can see the underlying table names,
    e.g., VBAK, VBKD!
  • The actual R/3 table names are shown arrowed.
These table names, e.g,, VBAK, can be entered in
commands like SE11 and SE16 to view table schema
    and contents, respectively.
  • Click on a table, e.g., VBAK (red arrow) then
either Table/View or Data Browser (blue
arrow). These commands invoke SE11 and SE16,
    respectively.

7
Table/View (equivalent to SE11). Note that
VBELN (highlighted) seems to mean Sales Order
Number.
8
Data Brower (equivalent to SE16). Enter your
sales order number in the VBELN field.
  • You can specify more than one order or select
orders from date ranges (ERDAT), etc. (If you
speak German, you will understand the
    abbreviations used!)

9
Here is Header info for Sales order number 9196
  • Clicking the spectacles icon (or double-clicking
the record) displays the same information
    vertically, see slide 10.

10
  • Alternative view of info in slide 9 (after
clicking on the spectacles on slide 9)

11
  • Use the same procedure to access the other
    tables.
  • For example, following object 16028 Sales order
item schedule line from slide 5, and choosing
table VBBE, then order number 9196, ultimately
takes you to screen shown here.
  • The screen to the right shows line 10 of order
9196. This is for 10 units of part number S-219.
    (OMENG means quantity.)

12
Use the same procedure to access the other
tables, e.g., via object 16028 Sales order item
schedule line
  • I am no R/3 expert, but it seems to me as if
sales order header info is in tables VBAK and
VBKD, and detail info is in tables VBBE, VBEP,
    and VBPA.
  • Assuming I am correct on point 1, if you describe
key fields of these tables you will have done the
    first half of Q.4.
  • For the second half of Q.4, see if you can find
evidence of any changes in the tables as the
    Module 6 process executes.
  • Project 2, Q.4 is worth 5 marks. Please dont
spend more than 5 hours on this part of the
    exercise!
