Title: PowerSchool

1
PowerSchool
  • Purposes, Dos and Donts

2
Purpose
  • PowerSchool is a tool to help communicate your
    childs progress in each class.
  • There are assignments and teacher comments and
sometimes there are links to the criteria of the
    assignment.
  • You can get email reminders on a monthly, weekly
    or daily basis.

3
What works with PowerSchool
  • Look at PowerSchool with your child.
  • Talk to your child and check their assignment
    notebook.
  • Read the teacher comments and look at the
    returned assignment with your child.
  • Emphasize your childs progress or help them
implement a plan to fix a problem.
  • Remember that there are going to be numerous
    assignments throughout the year
  • Email or call the teacher for clarification.

4
Dont do this with PowerSchool
  • Dont check it every day it will drive you
    crazy!
  • Dont overreact at the beginning of the quarter
when there are few grades and one assignment can
    skew the letter grade.
  • Dont forget that some teachers weight their
    grades.
  • Dont focus on a letter grade for an assignment,
    for example a 2/3 is a D
  • Dont rely on PowerSchool as your main (only)
    communication tool.

5
Some things to consider
  • Please keep in mind that the goal for everyone is
the childs success in a class.
  • Keep in mind that PowerSchool is a snapshot in
time and it is constantly evolving.
  • In the assignments ( ) often means not graded and
    0 or late means missing.
  • This is not a perfect tool, but it can be used
    very successfully.

6
Remember
  • Talk to your child.
  • Grades do not define the child.
  • Your child is special for who they are.
