What is Title I?
  • LEGISLATIVE PURPOSE
  • Title I was enacted to ensure that all children
    have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity
    to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at
    a minimum proficiency on the Grade Level
    Expectations (GLEs) and the Missouri Assessment
    Program (MAP).

What does Title I provide for students, parents
and teachers?
  • Title I funds are utilized to support
    salaries/benefits of reading and/or math
    specialists, tutoring, professional development,
    parent involvement and instructional supplies.

How are students selected to receive Title I
services?
  • Students are identified for services on the basis
    of multiple, educationally related, objective
    criteria.
  • Criteria include, but are not limited to
    assessment data, teacher referral, classroom
    performance, past Title I service, etc.

Jackson Park is currently a Targeted Assistance
Building, what does that mean?
  • Reading and/math specialists can only work with
    students who are identified in MOST need of Title
    I service through pushing in to the classroom or
    pulling students out of the classroom and working
    in small groups.
  • Supply monies can only be used to buy materials
    to support instruction for identified Title I
    students.
  • Parent involvement monies are also limited to
    identified Title I students.

What will going Schoolwide Title I mean for
Jackson Park?
  • FLEXIBILITY!!!!!!!
  • Title I Reading/Math Specialists can work with
    all students as all are considered eligible.
  • Supply, parent involvement and staff development
    monies can be utilized for all students, parents
    and teachers.

What is the process for going Schoolwide Title I?
  • 40 students on free or reduced lunch based upon
    the previous January count
  • Inform parents and teachers of intent to go
    Schoolwide
  • Complete a Needs Assessment
  • Survey students, parents and teachers
  • Review assessment data
  • Research best practices
  • Form a committee or add Schoolwide to an existing
    committee (School Improvement)

  • Write a plan with the following components
  • School Reform Strategies
  • Instruction by Highly Qualified Teachers
  • Parental Involvement
  • Additional Support
  • Transition from preschool
  • Submit the plan to DESE for approval
  • Make the plan available to the school district,
    parents and the public
  • Annual evaluation

Frequently Asked Questions
  • If we are approved as Schoolwide, will we always
    be designated as Schoolwide? Yes, this
    designation will stay regardless if our free or
    reduced lunch percentage increases or decreases.
  • Will we get more money? No, Jackson Park will not
    receive more money, but will have greater
    flexibility in how the monies can be spent as
    well as the scope of services offered to
    students.
  • Will this designation release us from the
    provisions of School Improvement (NCLB)? No,
    Jackson Park will still be held to the provisions
    of NCLB.
