Title: Harp Seals
1Harp Seals Lions
By Michael Bailey
2Baby harp seals can tell the different smells of
seal to find their mothers.
3Seals have more than one mate at mating time.
Male seals fight to get the most female seals.
4Millions of seals have been killed by poachers,
which is why they are endangered.
5To help them fly though the water these animals
have flippers instead of arms and legs.
A pinnipeds flipper is so flexible that it can
scratch its head!
The flippers look like fins or wings and that is
why all seals and wall ruses are called pinnipeds
which means wing-footed.
6The longer and darker the males manes are, the
more females will be attracted to the male.
Lions in North America became extinct for over
8,000years ago!
7There are about four-hundred lions left on Earth.
Only males get manes.
Males go out on their own to hunt and live at the
age of three.
