When do we use wh-words?

We often ask questions beginning with wh-words.
We call these questions wh-questions or
information questions, as the answers to the
questions usually give more information than the
answers to yes / no-questions.

Wh-questions with the verb to be
When we form wh-questions with the verb to be, we
put the verb to be after the wh-word.
When is the Christmas party? Who was Father
Christmas last year?

Wh-questions with other verbs
When we form wh-questions with other verbs, we
put the helping verb after the wh-word and the
main verb after the subject.
Where did you buy the Christmas crackers? How
