20Assessment
- You will each collect a Quiz sheet from the front
and complete it as well as you can in the time
your teacher allows. - Dont cheat as having a high mark but no skill is
a waste of everybody's time. - A lower but accurate mark means that we know
where to improve.
21Evaluation form
- The very last thing to do is to fill in an
evaluation form. As well as a chance for you to
say what skills you have gained it will also help
your teacher improve. - Thank you.
22Session 2 - Learning Objectives
- To be able to use a compass
- To orienteer around a course in a team
- Recap basic map skills
- Understanding orienteering

24Using a compass
A compass is a tool for finding direction. It
works due to the earths magnetic field. A metal
needle inside the compass is attracted to the
magnetic north.
25Using a compass
As you know where north is you can use the
compass to work out other directions.
26Finding North
N
27Finding North
You should always hold a compass straight in
front of you and flat to allow the needle to spin.
28Finding North
Turn the dial until the drawn arrow is at the top.
29Finding North

travel in!
36Classroom orienteering
- Collect an instruction sheet and a map for your
group. - You need to plan a route between 2 points on the
map. You should give distances and directions of
travel. - Once you have planned your route swap your
instructions with another group and see if they
reach your intended destination.
37Rules for orienteering outside
Do not disturb other classes Be safe Work
together Plan before you move No running Listen
to instructions at all times BE RESPONSIBLE

you will show to the rest of year 7 at the end of
next weeks PBL session. - You need to pick one skill that you will base
your presentation on. - Possibilities include
- Use of a compass
- Measuring with scale
- Orienteering
- What we did today
- OS map symbols
52- Lets plan together!
- PLANNING TIME
- Using the poster paper write all of the things
you would want to include in a presentation.
Think about the issues below to help you. - What your topic is about?
