Universities as enterprises? Are the students
customers or products of higher education?

• Problem How can we fund the university?
• But To what extent does the makeup of the
  funding affect the overall organisation?
• So We have not only to discuss about the role of
  the students but also about the role of the
  university.

From the students perspective

• University should provide an environment where
  students are able to reach their potential not
  only regarding academic skills but also social
  skills.
• Knowledge, skills, techniques, encouragement,
  creativity, intitiative, autonomy,
  self-governance, responsibility
• Being an active part of a social context

Students are neither customers nor products of
the university!

• They are an integral part of the university.
• They are (or should be) responsible citizens.
• University should educate responsible citizens
  and by that strengthen civil society.
• University education does not mean just education
  for the workforce.

• In a knowledge-based society education plays a
  key role.
• In times of globalization cultural awareness is
  very important.
• The better people are educated the more we are
  able to solve the problems of our society. This
  task cant be left only to politicians or the
  economy.
• Universities should be a central part of economic
  and social development.

• The changing nature of university funding will
  invariably effect how successfully the university
  can achieve its aims.
• Therefore when new funding methods are proposed
  detailed consideration should be given to the
  wider effects on the university.
