THE HISTORY
- During the 1999 Hurricane Season.. The SERFC
Hydrologist in Charge asked his staff if it was
possible to produce a graphic that conveyed the
severity of river flooding that was anticipated
with Hurricane Floyd. - These graphics were placed on the SERFC web site
for customer use.

- FEMA Region IV discovered these images in their
search for flood information. - FEMA called the SERFC to request continued
production of this type of information. - SERFC transmitted the Shapefiles to FEMA.
- FEMA placed this information into their GIS and
quickly had the NWS Hydrologic thoughts on the
severity of flooding associated with Floyd.

- Building off the success of using ArcView GIS
during Hurricane Floyd. - The SERFC set up procedures to produce a Daily
Hydrometeorological Outlook Product. - The entire staff was trained to use ArcView to
produce this Daily Hydrometeorological Outlook.
