How do we talk about the future?

In Book 1B, we learnt to use the simple future
and be going to to talk about the future. We can
also use

• the present continuous, and
• the simple present
• to talk about the future.

We use the present continuous to talk about
definite plans or arrangements in the future. We
often use time words (e.g. tomorrow, next
Saturday) when we talk about the future using the
present continuous.
Im going shopping this weekend. Dad isnt
coming home for dinner tonight. Are you seeing
Ricky tomorrow?

We use the simple present to talk about the
future when we talk about things related to
timetables and calendars.
The shopping centre opens at 8 a.m. and closes at
10 p.m. tomorrow. The exams start on 15th
December and finish on 22nd December. When does
the ferry leave?
