Title: Ketogenesis

1
Ketogenesis
  • Ketogenesis is a process by which acetyl
CoA is converted into ketone bodies (acetoacetic
    acid, ?-hydroxybutyrate and acetone).
  • Acetoacetic acid, and ?-hydroxybutyrate
are distributed to peripheral tissues (muscle,
brain) to be used for ATP production.
  • HMGCoA (hydroxymethylglutaryl CoA) is a
key intermediate in ketogenesis as well as sterol
    synthesis.
