4How can I apply for an Erasmus Mobility
- A student can participate in
- STUDENT MOBILITY STUDY (SMS)
- STUDENT MOBILITY PLACEMENT (SMP)
5Eligibility for Student Mobility Study
- A national of a participating country (or
recognised by the country where he/she is
resident as refugee, stateless person or
permanent resident) - Students must be registered at an HEI which holds
an EUC - EUC Erasmus University Charter (gives
universities the right to participate in the
Erasmus Programme) - Enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate studies
(up to including doctoral level) - First year students are not eligible
- Duration of mobility must be a minimum of 3
months a maximum of 12 months
6Eligibility for StudentMobility Placement
- First 3 points of the eligibility for SMS apply
- First year students are eligible
- Students can do a placement at an eligible
enterprise
- No need of bilateral agreements
- Duration of mobility must be a minimum of 3
months a maximum of 12 months - One can combine a study and a placement period
but they must take place in consecutive periods
- Non-eligible enterprises are
- European Institutions
- Organisations managing EU programmes
- The national diplomatic representation of the
student in the host country
7What should you expect as an Erasmus Student (1)
- Home host universities must have an
inter-institutional agreement - You must sign a Learning/Training Agreement with
the sending receiving institutions before you
leave - For Erasmus Placements you must receive the
Erasmus Quality Commitment - No fees should be charged
- Full academic recognition from home institution
for satisfactorily completed activities during
the Erasmus mobility
8What should you expect as an Erasmus Student (2)
- You must be provided with a transcript of records
at the end of your activities abroad - During the Erasmus mobility you must be treated
served in the same way as home students - You must have access to the Erasmus University
Charter (EUC) the European Policy Statement of
the home host institution - Your student grant or loan from your home country
should be maintained
9What is expected of you as an Erasmus Student
- Respect the rules obligations of your Erasmus
Grant Agreement with the home institution - Ensure that any changes to the Learning/Training
Agreement are agreed in writing with the sending
receiving institution immediately when they
occur - Spend the full study/placement period as agreed
- Write a report on your Erasmus mobility period
abroad when you return - Provide feedback if requested by your home
institution, National Agency or European
Commission - You must keep records of
- Flight ticket
- Boarding passes
10How to apply for an Erasmus Mobility
- University of Malta launches the call for
applications at the beginning of the year for
mobility taking place in the next academic year - You should respect the deadlines given by the
University of Malta - One can download the application form from the
Universitys website as well as the list of
Universities in the participating countries with
whom the UoM has bilateral agreements

12How is the Erasmus grant calculated
- For Erasmus mobility taking place in 2008/2009 -
according to the maximum amounts of Table 5a
(1-4) of the 2008 Call for Proposals - 80 initial grant
- max. 20 final grant after approval of final
report - Contractual agreement between the student and the
University of Malta
