Overview
  • Asian anticyclone is the dominant circulation
feature in the UTLS during NH summer. Asian
monsoon is a critical factor in the global
    troposphere-to-stratosphere transport. It has
significant impact on UTLS water vapor budget ,
and is also an efficient transport pathway for
anthropogenic emissions to get into the
    stratosphere
  • Many studies used satellite data and models,
which do not provide enough details for
characterizing the transport process. There is a
debate on the roles of convective and synoptic
processes in the TST of water vapor
  • We are presenting the first in situ measurements
of ozone/water vapor inside the anticyclone, the
data providing information on the structure and
strength of the circulation, complements the
    large scale satellite observations

Summary
  • For the first time, H2O and O3 in UTLS were
    measured during Asian summer monsoon
  • Some preliminary analysis
  • some finer and interesting structures
  • super-saturation and multi-layer in UT
  • Much more further analysis combined with
satellite data and trajectory model is under way
