• Students read one classic and one contemporary
  novel per trimester
• Book suggestions provided
• Oral book talk on theme, authors writing style,
  conflicts, characterization, favorite part, etc.

Grading Policy

• 60 Essays, Projects, Tests, Portfolios, etc.
• 40 Assignments, Quizzes, Journal Writing, etc.

Homework Policy

• No late work will be accepted however, each
  student will have one computer malfunction card
  that she/he can use anytime throughout the year.

Honors students will be expected to

• Synthesize and evaluate text
• Thoughtfully engage in formal and informal
  speeches, debates and Socratic seminars
• Write in various essay forms
• Write with voice, craft and fluency
• Think analytically about non-fiction text,
  including memoirs, speeches and excerpts
• Write and read complex poetry, such as
  Villanelles and Sonnets
• Study complex themes/concepts
• Reflect upon growth and learning
• Think with an open mind, consider multiple
  viewpoints, and accept criticism
