Our School Aims
5
Curriculum
  • Everything we do has these aims in mind.
  • We aim to make learning fun and try use a variety
    of creative approaches.
  • Our curriculum is skills based, and children
learn through applying skills from one subject
    area into other areas.
  • We value developing the children as independent
learners, so they know what they are able to do
and what their next steps in learning are.
  • We feel that this will support them as life-long
learners as it will make learning more fun and
    realistic.

Intervention Programmes
  • These provide extra support for children who are
identified as just below the level of national
expectation. The aim is to give these children
extra support to move them back in line with
    national expectations.
  • ALK additional literacy kit. This is for pupils
who need to consolidate letter sounds, spelling,
rhyming, sequencing etc. It runs throughout the
year, children have 10 minute sessions (2-3 times
    per week)
  • Children work 11 or 21 with a trained teaching
assistant. Again, prior to your child being
included in the programme you will be informed.
  • Other intervention programmes such as QUEST,
Springboard Maths, Pindora are used where
necessary, sometimes within a class, and
sometimes on an individual/small group basis.
  • If we feel that your child would benefit from
this support, we will talk to you on an
    individual basis.

9
Involving Parents
  • We are always willing to talk to you! Please talk
to the class teacher if you have any questions or
    concerns.
  • The school website www.allsaints-leek.staffs.sch
.uk. There is now a parent zone. You can find the
link to the school online calendar, curriculum
support class timetables, curriculum maps, key
    stage newsletters, calculation strategies for
    maths and much more!
  • We will be using the new text messaging service
to parents. Please ensure we have your up to date
    mobile number.
  • Letters sent home with the youngest sibling.

10
Involving Parents
  • We value your support, and would like you to be
    involved in your childs education.
  • With this in mind

11
Class Newsletters
  • Classes will have a half-termly curriculum
newsletter, outlining areas of learning, extra
activities that could extend this and any extra
requirements eg. Collecting items for artwork,
etc. We will try to make this as useful as
    possible.
  • This will be sent home at the start of each half
    term.

12
Shine Days
  • During the year we will be continuing Shine Days.
These are days where parents have the opportunity
to come into school and work with their own child
    and others in the classroom.
  • We will spend the day working on a class project,
such as the Imaginary Worlds Sculptures.

13
Targets
  • Targets are set so that children are aware of
their progress and what they need to improve.
Each child has a literacy, maths and personal
    target each term.
  • Targets are set based on skills ladders we
assess where children are and then what they need
to improve. The children are involved in this
    process.
  • Targets are set at half term periods. So, as
children enter their new class they will have a
target set by their previous teacher. This will
continue to be their learning target for that
half term. Then after the half term break new
targets will be set. If a child meets their
target particularly quickly, new targets are set.
  • Targets will be sent home when new ones are
issued and will be discussed at Parent
    Consultations.

14
Reading
  • At home - three times a week. Children achieve a
star and are entered for our radical reader
    prize, drawn each half term.
  • At school volunteer helpers come into school to
    hear your child read individually.
  • At school guided reading takes place each week
to develop higher order reading skills, with the
    class teacher and TA.
  • As children become more secure in their reading,
    we encourage children to
  • Change their own book, and choose books from the
appropriate level which they find interesting.
  • Record their own comments in their diaries
    (signed by an adult!)
  • Read their own books, magazines etc.

15
Homework
  • Weekend homework children will receive homework
each week, this will mainly be maths or literacy
based, consolidation of learning in class or
preparation for new learning. At times other
homework will be given instead, eg. Science work
    or story writing, topic research/reporting,
design activities etc. Homework should be
    returned on Monday.
  • Multiplication Tables / Number Bonds We will
assess your childs next steps, and set a target.
When your child is secure with their
multiplication target, new targets will be set.
We will send this information home with your
    child.
  • During the summer term, key stage 2 children are
encouraged to complete an independent project for
their homework. This is intended to develop their
independent learning skills, and will help them
as they prepare to move to middle school.

16
Homework
  • Sometimes we use Education City as a resource for
    homework.
  • At times, this may be a additional weekly
    homework task.
  • At other times, we set activities that the
children can do at home over the half term, which
will reinforce work covered in school.
  • Every child in Key Stage 2 has their own ID card,
with a username and password. This enables them
to access the Education City website.
  • If your child cannot access a computer at home,
they will still have other homework to meet their
    learning objective.
  • Details of usernames and passwords are sent out
    in September.

17
SATS
  • Year 3 and Year 4 children do optional SATs in
    the summer term.
  • Year 2 children will do KS1 SATs in the summer
    term.

18
Thank-you!
  • Any questions?
  • Please remember that we operate an open door
    policy.
  • We are available to speak to parents at the end
of each day when we dismiss the children, should
parents want a lengthier meeting at any time,
    appointments can be arranged.
