1 How To Find Books In Germannas Libraries
2The library home page is located at
www.germanna.edu/library.VCCSLinc is Germannas
gateway to an online catalog of books, serials,
e-resources, sound recordings and more.
3Once you enter the catalog, choose the type of
search you wish to do from the drop-down menu.
Enter your search term in the search box and
click Go.
4When you get the list of records, be sure to
check for the location (Culpeper, Locust Grove,
Fredericksburg, or VCCS) and the type and
availability (Circulating, Reference, Internet,
etc.) of the item.
5- If you do not find any matches for your search
- Check your spelling
- Try a more general or a more specific search
term, by
6using Advanced Search which enables you to
refine your search. Also, terms such as and,
or, not
7can limit your search, as it did here with and
or
8expand your search, as it did here with or.
9As you can see the Boolean operators and, or,
and not can have a significant impact on the
results of your search.
10You can get the most complete information about
any item by clicking on the title or the record
number.

12Read the Abstract to see if the book contains the
information that you need and want. Also, the
record page can assist you with citation.
13The various citation styles are listed.
14If you want to see more resources that are
available for your topic, look at Subject
Lib.Cong. Often there are several subject
listings for a book.
15This path can open up a whole new world of
material for you.
16Now, for example, you can decide if you want to
focus on Arctic regions or Economic aspects
within the climatic changes subject category
17Also, at the bottom of the record, you can click
on the Location. This will give you the
ability to see if the book is on the shelf and to
put a hold on it if it is.
18Since this book is on the shelf, Request this
item will give you the ability to place a hold
on it.
19Enter your myGCC login information to sign in and
place the request. The item will be sent to the
campus of your choice for pick up within 24 hours.
20Additionally, you may request that circulating
books be held for you at a particular campus by
submitting an online request form.
21Note that there are several different types of
form options here.

please use this form for all requests.
23Through our online Library Request Forms, you can
also request items not owned by Germanna.
24If you did not find a book that you were looking
for in our collection, search other libraries by
entering Library Catalogs.
25This page gives you the ability to access Other
College Libraries, WorldCat (a catalog of
books, web resources, and other materials world
wide), and Local Public Libraries.
26Once you find an item you wantreturn to the
Library Home page, Library Request Forms and fill
out the appropriate form.
27- Reference books and audio-visual material may be
moved from one campus to another for your use in
the library. - Online books may be accessed directly through the
catalog. - Online books available through VIVA or VCCS may
be accessed with your myGCC user ID and password.
- Online books available through NetLibrary require
a separate user ID and password. NetLibrary
accounts needs to be initiated on a Germanna
computer. Distance Learners may email
library_at_germanna.edu for an account to be set up
for them.
