Title: Personalized Education Plans

1
Personalized Education Plans
2
What is a PEP?
  • The purpose for these plans are to address the
individual needs of the students by identifying
their area(s) of deficiency and strategies that
teachers, parents and students can try in order
to improve the success of the particular student.

3
Who qualifies to have a PEP?
  • Students that scored a Level I or Level II on
their End of Grade test(s) in Reading and/or Math
    in North Carolina.
  • Students that receive a letter grade of D or F on
their 1st quarter report cards in any core
    subject area.

4
Who implements the PEP?
  • Personalized Education Plans should be developed
with a team of individuals, who can provide
insight into the student academically, socially,
    and/or behaviorally.
  • Team teachers, counselor, parent, administrator

5
What does a PEP contain?
  • According to the North Carolina Department of
    Public Instruction, the Personalized Education
    Plans must contain intervention strategies,
monitoring strategies and process, along with
    specific diagnostic information.

6
What does a PEP contain locally?
  • The Personalized Education Plans must contain
diagnostic reports from the GRADE diagnostic
assessment for Reading. The strategies should be
supplemental to and different from the
instruction the student receives in the regular
    classroom environment.

7
Short Term Goals
  • The individual success of the students who have
    the Personalized Education Plans.
  • The additional strategies, modifications, and
involvement of the parents will hopefully bring
up the grades of those failing any of the core
    subjects.
  • These strategies will provide insight into
additional strategies that could be possibly
    used.

8
Long Term Goals
  • The students success on the End of Grade tests.
Students will perform at or above grade level on
    these state standardized tests.
  • They will receive passing grades for the year on
    their report cards.

9
Successful PEP implementation
  • Differentiated teaching strategies
  • Parent contact and involvement
  • Adequate number of work samples
  • Monitoring
  • Multiple strategies used to address the area(s)
    of deficiency

10
Academy of Reading (AoR)
  • A literacy intervention software that allows
struggling students to work independently on
    skill gaps.
  • The program supplements existing curriculum by
helping students build foundation skills in five
core areas identified by the National Reading
    Panel.
  • Struggling students have shown average gains of
2.5 grade levels in reading skills AFTER 25 hours
of direct training on the Academy of Reading.

Academy of Math (AoM)
  • A proven intervention approach that helps at-risk
