Radiation-Hard insulation RD

• Goal Select the insulation scheme, with
  radiation-hard materials, that is most suitable
  for long Nb3Sn coils, and develop adequate
  technology
• Epoxy is presently the weak spot but maybe
  strong enough
• We are exploring collaboration with EU/CARE
  partners
• - Rutherford Lab., INFN-LASA
• Plan
• Measure mechanical, electrical and thermal
  properties of selected candidates, and compare
  with present insulation scheme (FY07)
• Valuate their compatibility with vacuum
  impregnation (FY07)
• Cable stacks and small coils
• Test radiation damage of m/e/t properties of BEST
  candidates (FY08/09)
• Reproduce computed Max dose and energy spectrum
  (by DS)
• Test of a TQ with Radiation-Hard insulation
  (FY09/10)
